Career Choice

Regardless of the field we receive an education in, choosing a profession and business area is a critical issue for most of us; and we may have difficulties in making a decision. Except for those who choose professions such as medicine, law, and architecture, there are very few people who are completely sure of what they will do when they graduate because the options are so varied, and it takes quite a lot of work to find out what we will be satisfied “by doing,” in which field we will work passionately, and in which line of work we will perform well. The first step for this is to know ourselves well.

Knowing yourself

In this section, you will work on the following questions:

• What are my personality traits/competencies?

• What do I expect from business life?

• What do I want to contribute to people and society?

• What are the subjects and environments in which I work in a most productive and motivated manner?

• Do I like working alone or interacting with a team?

• What are my personal values?

• What are my interests?

• What are my technical skills?

.  What are my strong behavioral competencies?

Study the Skills and Competencies List below for answers to these questions.

Deciding What You Want

1. Physical Environment: In an office, in a factory, on a construction site, in an airport, laboratory, school or hospital?

2. Sector selection: Check the List of Sectors.

3. Business area selection:

There are many business areas that we hear, watch, or learn from companies that visit our campus. Sales, marketing, finance, consultancy, production planning, strategic planning, logistics, human resources, project management, research and development, product management, technical service, call center management, demand planning, proposal engineer, recruitment specialist, corporate communication, content development specialist, media planning, and others. There are many options. You can narrow down the options by examining the job descriptions in these areas:

What is expected of you? What personality traits and competencies are required? How is the working environment? How is the management philosophy?

And then, you can start making your applications accordingly. Jobs that suit other people may not suit you. Even though the starting wages are not high, there is no guarantee that you will be happy and successful in other jobs where they are high. At the core of choosing the right profession lies harmony with your personality, values, and competencies. First of all, you should pay attention to this.

In order to make a healthy career choice, you should get to know better the sector and the company you want to work for by taking advantage of the internship opportunities in the companies.
